Is Someone There?

Day 10. Ash woke from another nap. It was hard to keep up his physical strength in an enclosed room. He was pushing his work out routine hard. Every morning, and afternoon he would work out different parts of his body, always keeping cardio and core strength training in his daily routine. The hash marks on the cardboard box were divided into days, and muscle groups.  Knowing that resting was just as important to muscle training as work outs he took a nap after his morning routine, and rested early each evening. At least, he was thinking it was evening. The lights never dimmed. Food rations were plentiful, but the same each day. So much of the same. If anyone of lesser mind had been kept in this environment he was sure they’d have gone mad.
The voice giving instructions was the only thing he had to hang on to. He re-listened to the iPod over and over the first few days. Trying to get some kind of handle on the situation. Was the any memory of having volunteered for this? Is it even possible he would have? He was quite sure he wouldn’t, unless ordered to. Ash was a go and do person, not a lab rat. But maybe this was the type of person they needed… on and on he thought in circles for those first few days. Now, by day 10, he was over it. Now he would just keep his strength in top shape and get ready for his break out. Sooner or later they would have to open a door, or make a move. He couldn’t stay here forever. Could he?
What was that? There was movement. Just a shadow really. But even a shadow was new in this room.
“Ash… AAAsssshhhhh…”  The sound was like a whisper on the wind. Carried from far away. Not near.
What… Who… Nothing. He stood and looked around the room. For several moments he stood still. Barely breathing. Was this a trick. Were they messing with him through the loud speakers? After an eternity he finally assumed he must have been dozing into a dream. Still… that voice sounded familiar. Who was that?

The W Story Structure - 4 Sequence Story Structure

Out of everything I've ever read on story structure for fiction writing, the W-Story Structure makes the most sense to me. If you'd rather view these as Acts (3-Act or 4-Act) you can overlay that on this W and it still works.

Glen C. Strathy writes (in much more detail here) in his article, The W-Plot vs. The Dramatica Model of Story Structure. There are four sequences for most stories. Each of the four legs of the W is comprised of a sequence of events that lead the story along to it's natural conclusion.

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)Sequence 2: recovering from the problem (new ideas, positive momentum)Sequence 3: deepening of the problemSequence 4: the resolution of the problem (new light or understanding)

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)
The Inciting Event (the event that is at the heart of the reason this story happened) may have occurred before your story begins, and often does. In King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), th…

Friendship Return On Investment (ROI)

Are your friendships giving you good ROI, Return On Investment?

Shouldn't I be giving selflessly, not expecting anything in return?
I believe yes and no.
After spending time reading works by Dr. Henry Cloud... In the Boundaries series... I've come to a realization.
There're certainly going to be occasions where you will invest in someone because you see their potential or because God asks you too. These may not seem like good investments and they may have no visible return that you can see. But they're good seed into God's work in that person's life and therefore still good investments.
But I believe those are the exception.
In general, those investments above are not friends. Not really. Those are relational, maybe a brother or sister in God's great big family, one of his kids. But they're not friends. I think it's game changing to make…

LIFE Verse Update (See post here)

Think Differently LIVE Differently

Think Differently LEAD Differently

Think Differently LEARN Differently (not yet written)

CS Lewis was a great theologian because he did not have a religious studies background, but a literary and mythologies background. Stories allowed him to dive into Truth in a way that dry study never could.

He used the word Freedom Journey... I liked that. It's not a destination. Not only have I not arrived yet, but I will NEVER arrive. Something things will be catapulted upon leaving this earth, but even then, we will be on an eternity long journey to discover more about God and more about ourselves in God.

Sozo: Salvation, Deliverance, Healing

Study is not about gaining more knowledge, it's about "what do I DO differently?" You can see miracles and still struggle with it mentally. I do! How did he know?

While he was …

Sophist

A sophist was a teacher who used philosophy and rhetoric to teach virtue or excellence.

I came across this term while looking for an "S" word to replace "Thinker"...

Storyteller. Writer. Thinker.

Storyteller. Scribe. S..... Sophist? Scholar? Seeker? Seer? Sage? Standard Bearer?

Still pondering...

What's interesting to me is that the term Sophist later became a derogatory term, to refer to someone who takes money and uses logical fallacies to deceives you.

The reason I find this fascinating... I've heard so many people get mad at a Kenneth Copeland or Joel Osteen because a lot of money flows through their hands. They get called heretics by the religious Pharisees of our day. But I've worked/volunteered around Kenneth Copeland, on his property for three years. I have more respect for him than most Church leaders, by a LONG shot.

They look at the money and think it's inherently evil. Which makes no sense.

Many of those same people might pay to go to a …
