DISCLOSURES - Cookies

I think this site uses cookies to analyze traffic and for ads measurement purposes. I'm not really sure, I don't do techy stuff. I built it on Google's Blogger platform, ask them. DISCLOSURES

Some lawyers stay up at night trying to ruin free society and create new rules. Therefore, here are the disclosures I must have that you probably won't read.

Want A Better Life? Change Something!

I'm going to be straight with you... I don't like to change.

Does anyone?  It's uncomfortable.

But I find change is necessary if you want a better life.

Lately I've been thinking about how I can make some changes in my life and routine to produce better outcomes in my life. At Work. At Home. Beyond.

One Little Change, Then Another.

Garden: We've always wanted a garden. My wife planned it out, and did the research. So I jumped in and got involved. Every week I take steps. The first week I ripped out the old bushes and replanted a rose bush. This week I planted a second rose bush, some asparagus and succulents and put down soil and mulch. Next Week We're planting three Artichoke Plants. All that was just the front yard. The REAL garden is starting out back tomorrow. Each week taking more small steps to the bigger vision.

Attitude: I had fallen into a rut at work, saying the same things to the same people, my heart was missing from my work. So I've done two things. 1. I'm actively looking for a new job. 2. But in the mean time I'm putting as much of myself as I can into each call. Being present for the caller. Finding anything I can do to make their day better. I feel better at work, surprise, and I'm getting better sales results too!

By definition "better" means change.

Better means something has changed from how it was to how it now is.

As we used to say in AA, :

"The definition of insanity is: Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results." Albert Einstein

Or as Pastor Art Aragon says:

"Change isn't change until there's change; if you want change you have to change."

Sometimes a small change is enough to shift the balance and the rest of the pieces fall like dominoes.

Your Assignment, should you choose to accept it:

Take a new route to work.
Read a new book/author.
Eat at a new restaurant.
Say something you've never said.
Get up earlier.
Stay up later or go to bed earlier.
Fill out a job application
Fill out a job application for a different role than you've had before.

Try something new.

    Darrell's Reading List

Here are some books I've been reading lately:
    • Hacker: The Outlaw Chronicles (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). The story of a young Hacker girl, who went on a wild adventure into the supernatural realm beyond trying to save her mom, but saved her self too in the process.
    • Saint: A Paradise Novel (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). He's an assassin, or is he? He finds a secret to his past that unlocks supernatural abilities, at a cost.

Introduction In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Immerse, 2017) John, page 399
Notice that John begins his gospel by calling Jesus, The Word. We find Words, and the stories they create for us, impact us at a level that is beyond our cognitive ability to understand in the moment. Being caught up in a story can make you lose all sense of present, and be transported to another time and place (and sometimes another world entirely).

Ever since Aristotle observed that stories had a beginning, a middle, and an end, the science of story has been developed and studied. Our modern sensibilities tell us at a gut level whether a story “works” or i…

I am a story teller! Time to flex my story telling...

In the spirit of sharing what I'm up to this weekend, here is a short scene I posted on my fiction blog a while back. This is being used an example for a new trial project I'll talk about at the end of this post.

The Closet (originally posted on my fiction practice blog here).
It was the sound. It washed over his mind, like a shower on the inside. Water landing on pavement, concrete, and wood; as though beating a million tiny drums. The distant sound of the tiny river, washing down the sidewalks into the gutters. Ash always slept with the window open, but most especially on rainy nights.

We are no closer now to getting to the bottom of this, than we were when it started.

The rest of the house was asleep, but he couldn't find sleep. The air shifted slightly, and he felt he wasn't alone. Ash sat up straight, and at the edge of his bed sat a man. He was wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt, and a well kept beard. His hair was pulled back into a pony tail, and he smiled. The man'…

    I am a WRITER!

WRITERI am a writer:Yesterday was incredible! I received revelation and clarity for 2014. I AM A WRITER! Jeff Goins talks about making that declaration being the most revolutionary part of his career. Everything changed when he decided that. It's amazing what clarity will do for you.

I was being torn between what I was becoming passionate about and what I thought I was supposed to be doing. For years everyone has told me that I should be a musician and in audio mixing. I pursued that career this year. I even took an audio course. I know that is still part of my calling. Music and Audio is in there somewhere. But it's not my focus for 2014. I am a writer. I'm going to explore that solely this year.

The moment of realization hit me when my wife, who has always seen more in me than I see in myself turned to me pointed out that even during my audio class I didn't talk about it. I didn't read the books and find new books and get "into it". It was mostly focused …
