Story Structure: White Noise

Three Act

I.

Keeps having dreams, starts hearing and perceiving spiritual things, xxxxx happens to push him over the edge and find out what's happening to him.

II.

Pushes to find answers, develops a hap hazard team, and meets Eta who is having the same experiences. Xxxx happens and they must choose to give up or pursue.

III.

Faced with a daunting task they pursue truth, picking up clues, and misdirection. When xxxx happens that nearly ends the whole pursuit, it may even look like its over, but they find one more thing to push them forward.

IV.

Final Showdown between Ash and Eta against xxxxx.

They leave the situation victors and losers. They are assessing where to go after all this. One believes more, one believes something happened,

But remains unconvinced.

They part company, the end... Except, there is another event...or hint of one, will that propel them into another story?

End book one.

Story Arc

Disruption

Ash is on training and disappears for days, meanwhile he is being tested in a secret facility, studying sounds effect on perceiving the supernatural...

Ash is home now, retired from the service and starts feeling the effects of the experiment, while researchers are secretly keeping tabs on him.

OR... We pick up the story in Oregon, and find out through bits of reveal about the experiment.

Maybe the first reveal is a vivid dream of a white box room, and he thinks its PTSD via a recurring nightmare but it's actually suppressed memory.

Location Sketch: White Room

Overview:

The white room is located inside a research facility owned by the XXXXXX. The facility is ran by Dr. XXXXXX, and his assistant XXXXX. The room is 8X8 square, made from titanium and painted with white high gloss paint. The titanium plates cover each wall, the floor, and the ceiling, and are nearly seamless, so that the room appears to be a solid white box from end to end, top to bottom.

There is no apparent door. The door exists, but it cannot be seen or felt until it is opened. There is a place to lay down, which slides out from the wall. Three times a day, a small door, no larger than an iPad, opens, and a tray of food is inside. Box inside this door is equally seamless, and back lit by a small LED light. The door stays open until the tray is placed back, and then closes.

There is a table, which also rises on it’s own from the ground as one solid piece, no legs, just a large rectangular box that rises out of the ground. On the table is a small white cardboard box, wrapped in white paper. Inside is a white iPod, with one track, which gives a brief explanation (which may/may not be true), and instructions on what will happen next.

From the ceiling, there is white noise, pumped through speakers into the room. It is noticeable at first, as echoes off the smoth metalic reverberant walls, but it quickly fades into the background and cannot even be heard or detected. Inside that white noise, is a series of frequencies that are not audible to human ears, but have shown signs of being able to make the human spirit more malleable, or open, to the spiritual realm.

This room is meant as a way to wash the candidate of extraneous interference from the outside world, before entering the Dark Room.

·         Titanium’s most common compound, titanium dioxide, is a popular photocatalyst and is used in the manufacture of white pigments.[4]

Location Sketch: Sriklan Islands

Sri-Klan Islands (need a new name)

Somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, south of Hawaii, even with Australia and Mexico. Large grouping of small islands, hidden from even the most sophisticated maps.

Climate:

Beaches are comprised of Quartz Sand, white in color, and cool the touch, even on the hottest day. Tropical, near equator?

Buildings, once used by the Japanese during WWII prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, now owned and used by the USA for Top Secret training exercises. Only the most elite train here, and even they don’t know where it is. The buildings are kept in full operational use, and often rebuilt after training causes collateral damage.

Landscape:

Peppered with Cherry Blossom Trees, Palms, Oak, and Spruce. A reminder of many former residents.

No large beasts, there are monkeys, birds, reptiles, sea turtles.

Each Island is within visibility of another, barely. One could swim from one to another, however, white sharks are known to travel out this far and visit nearby reefs. Attacks are rare, but can happen when blood is in the water.

Technology:

The island is fully wired with generators and satellites, wireless cameras and motion sensors are kept running 24 hours a day.

Location Sketch: Ashland, Oregon

Colonel Theron Ashlund, USAF was the old Ash.

Now he was Professor Ashlund, Ph.D. Dean of the school for Military Science at Southern Oregon University (SOU), Ashland Oregon. More on Ash: http://authorfun.blogspot.com/2014/05/flashbacks.html

Ashland, Oregon

Story Overview:

·         Ash owns a two story cabin in the mountains. Back balcony overlooks the hills and lake, front window overlooks the town. He has a hammock on the back balcony.

·         Ash has a favorite coffee shop he visits frequently.

·         Ash is a professor at SOU.

·         Ash keeps to himself, makes very few friends, and his home is quite empty, except for essentials. Nobody visits.

Wiki for Ashland OR

Ashland is a city in Jackson County, in the State of Oregon. It lies along Interstate 5 slightly north of the California border and near the south end of the Bear Creek Valley, an arm of the Rogue Valley. As of July 1, 2013, the city's population was estimated to be 20,713.[5]

The city is the home of Southern Oregon University (SOU) and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). These are important to Ashland's economy, which also depends on restaurants, galleries, and retail stores that cater to playgoers and other visitors. Lithia Park along Ashland Creek, historic buildings, and a paved intercity bike trail provide additional tourist attractions.

Ashland, originally called Ashland Mills, was named after Ashland County, Ohio, the original home of founder Abel Helman, and secondarily for Ashland, Kentucky, where other founders had family connections. Ashland has a mayor-council government assisted by citizen committees. Historically, its liberal politics have differed, often sharply, with much of the rest of southwest Oregon.

Ashland is at 1,949 feet (594 m) above sea level[3] in the foothills of the Siskiyou and Cascade ranges, about 15 miles (24 km) north of the California border on Interstate 5 (I-5).[19] About 10 miles (16 km) south of Ashland and 5 miles (8 km) north of the California border is Siskiyou Summit, which at 4,310 feet (1,310 m) is the highest point on I-5.[20] Ashland is about 12 miles (19 km) south of Medford and about 300 miles (480 km) south of Portland.[21] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of about 6.6 square miles (17.1 km2), all land.[2]

Climate:

Although the mountain peaks in this zone receive up to 120 inches (3,000 mm) of precipitation a year, the urban areas and the valleys in which they lie generally get 20 inches (510 mm) or less. This valley climate is particularly good for growing fruit, especially pears, and for producing other crops and farm goods such as hay, grain, poultry, and beef.[23]

Cloud cover in nearby Medford varies from an average of 21 percent in July to 86 percent in December.[24] On average, precipitation falls in Ashland on 114 days each year and totals about 20 inches (510 mm).[25] The average annual snowfall is only 1.4 inches (3.6 cm).[25] The average relative humidity, measured at 4 p.m. daily, is 47 percent in Medford, varying from 26 percent in July to 76 percent in December.[26]

The coolest month is December, with an average high temperature of 47 °F (8 °C), and the warmest month is July, with an average high of about 88 °F (31 °C).[25] The highest temperature ever recorded in Ashland was 108 °F (42 °C), observed in August 1981, and the record low of −4 °F (−20 °C) occurred in December 1972.[27]

Demographics:

·         In the census of 2010, there were 20,078 people, 9,409 households, and 4,542 families residing in the city.

Economy:

Income from tourism is important to Ashland's economy. A large number of restaurants, galleries, and retail stores cater to thousands of visitors who attend plays each year at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. In 2011, the festival sold more than 390,000 tickets to its theater productions.[34]

The town's largest employer is Southern Oregon University (SOU), which has a faculty and staff of more than 750.[34] In addition to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the university, health-service providers make significant contributions to the economy. Businesses related to outdoor recreation, transportation, technology, and light manufacturing are also important.[34] In 2010, the Shakespeare Festival employed about 500 people, the hospital about 400, the public schools about 300, and the City of Ashland about 250.[35] The Bathroom Readers' Press, which produces the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books, is based in Ashland and San Diego.[36] Brammo, specializing in battery-electric motorcycles, was based in Ashland but recently moved to Talent.[37]

Points of Interest:

The National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory in Ashland is the world's only laboratory dedicated to solving crimes against wildlife. Using forensic science, experts at the laboratory help wildlife officers to investigate possible crimes against animals and to establish links between victims and suspects in cases that go to court.[44] The laboratory has assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and foreign agencies concerned with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITIES).[45]

Island Wake Up Call

Ash came to himself blinded by a terrible light, which hurt his eyes. He rolled over onto his belly, and planted his face into his pillow... No, this wasn't a pillow, it was... sand? He accidentally breathed some in and began coughing uncontrollably. He would have to get his bearings, but first he'd have to get his senses. He rose to his hands and knees and calmed his mind, slowed his heart rate. Focus. That's what he needed right now. His eyes still hurt too much to open, but he didn't need them just yet.

Birds. Sand. Wind in trees. Water washing ashore in a quiet steady cadence. He was back on the island? The sand between his fingers was cold to the touch, but the sun on his back and face was quite warm. These had to be white sand islands. He was back to the training center? Had he ever left? What happened.... wait... What is that?

***********

Eta was thrashing around, blindly looking for something or someone to attack. It was only after she ran out of breath that she realized she was alone. Her eyesight was coming back, but it was still much to bright to fully open her eyes, even with the clothe that she'd tied around her face to block the sun.

All she could see was trees, water, sand. Now that she was too tired to fight.... nothing... she could hear the sounds of the island herself. There was one sound that was not familiar... A rustling in the trees, less than half a klick away.

****************

Sir

What is it seargent?!

Motion sensors dedect movement on one of the south islands.

We haven't trained down there in months. Are you sure it's not those stupid Monkey's again?

We checked sir, camera footage is rough from the distance, but we captured this image.

Well I'll be... Get a unit down there now, and go in armed, we don't know what to expect.

Yes sir

With that the door closed and left the General alone. Where have those two been?!

Discovery | Exploring My Experiences

Discuss ONE experience for each of the following:

A Rewarding Ministry Experience.

Once, when leading a group for the Christian Club on Campus, at College of the Desert, I (and the group) laid hands on a young lady, and she received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other tongues. That was the first moment I saw that something bigger than me was possible. God really could use me. And it frightened me, as much as it thrilled me.

A Gratifying Personal Achievement.

Publishing Banking Basics for Believers. A woman I didn't know, was informed by a friend of mine to read it. I gave her a copy, my gift. She said that it helped her personally and professionally understand money in a new way. She was doing the job I had been doing when I started writing it. She felt that it should be mandatory reading. What an amazing circle of experience.

A Touching Relationship Experience.

Hearing my wife (to be at the time) pray in tongues for the first time. It was the first time I found out that it still existed. Before her, I thought it had either died centuries ago, or was happening in some remote monastery. When I heard her, my world opened wider than ever before. I knew I needed more of whatever she had.

A Tremendously Difficult Life Experience.

My Pastor-Father came out as an Alcoholic Atheist, later turned Crack Addict, then Psychologist. Parents Divorced. World crashed down. I struggled with identity for those first few years. But as I look back now... I struggled with identity for years before too. As a child I'd seen Jesus with my own eyes, and a demon too. Yet I grew up in this frozen-chosen religious traditional church, full of people who wouldn't know God if he walked up and said hello. There were precious few born again people in those churches. So I was always torn between the life of the supernatural I experienced around me, and the dead religiosity of the people around me. So as I look back... it wasn't an event that changed me... it was an event that crystallized the difference, and forced me to choose which world I would live in: Spiritual or Natural.

Your Primary Spiritual Gifts Descriptions

Spiritual Gifts are supernatural motivations given to every believer. Everyone doesn't receive the same gift. Just as many parts of the human body work together as one, so Spiritual Gifts are given to the Body of Christ to serve as one.

Their purpose is to encourage and mature Christians for more effective ministry. These gifts are featured based upon their functional and practical use.
Teaching
Christians with the Gift of Teaching prefer explaining why things are true. While the prophet declares truth, the teacher explains the reasons why it is true. Interested in research, those with the Gift of Teaching like to dig into seemingly insignificant details. They enjoy presenting what they discover. Often negligent of the needs of others, they press toward a deeper understanding. They love to study. Searching patiently and persistently, they may miss the obvious. They stretch the limits of learning, setting high standards of education.
In a word: In-depth
Overuse: Digs too deep
Goal: Reveal truth, don't exhaust it
Scripture: Rom. 12:6,7b; Col. 3:16; Jam. 3:1; 2; 2 Tim. 2:2

Prophecy / Perceiving
Prophets today are not exactly like prophets of old. Old Testament Prophets spoke the literal Word of God. Today people with the Gift of Prophecy seem to have the same seriousness and straight forward attitude toward truth. They like to share truth, regardless of what anyone thinks. Prophets today are motivated to confront anyone with what they believe is right. When controlled by the Holy Spirit, the Gift of Prophecy is a powerful tool to reprove, rebuke and exhort others. Prophets often find themselves pointing the way, declaring specific truth or standing up for something significant.
In a word: Bold
Overuse: Fighter
Goal: Declare truth, don't divide Christians
Scripture: ph. 4:7,11; 1 Cor. 14:1,3; 2 Pet 1:19-21

Leadership
The Gift of Leadership, much like the Gift of Administration / Ruling, is evident in those who demonstrate an unusual ability to influence others. They seem to have an independent determination to challenge and direct others toward a specific goal. They stand out and take stands. Those with the Gift of Leadership tend to be multi-talented excelling with their people and tasks skills. Often result-oriented and driven, they need to guard their strengths. They also need to be more sensitive and patient with those who don't respond as well or positive as they. They are great motivators.
In a word: Dreamer
Overuse: Too demanding and impatient
Goal: Lead by example and willingness to be a servant
Scripture: Rom. 12:6,8c; John 13:13-17; Heb. 13:17

Encouraging / Exhorting
Christians with the Gift of Encouraging find themselves exhorting others. They are compelled to give advice. As counselors, they seem to often have steps of action. While Prophets declare truth and Teachers clarify truth, Encouragers / Exhorters like to tell you what to do with truth. They bless others with a strong sense of concern. Often looking to encourage others, they are sought out as counselors. People find Encouragers friendly, understanding and practical. They enjoy using their communication skills to share specific insights.
In a word: Encourager
Overuse: Talks too much
Goal: Apply truth, don't create expectations
Scripture: Rom. 12:6,8; Acts 11:23-24; Heb. 10:24-25

Discovery | D.I.S.C

In the D.I.S.C inventory: I am a C -Conscientiousness.

Take the DISC assessment here. The disc assessment divides the personality traits into Outgoing (D/I) and Reserved (S/C) and then divides again into People Driven (I/S) and Task Driven (D/C). All people will likely score some in each of the four quadrants. The test then shows "The Real You" and the "The way you behave".

I show a strong preference toward the C in both inward tendencies, and outward behaviors. I also show some leaning in the D/S, but VERY little in the I.

People with the C style place an emphasis on working conscientiously within existing circumstances to ensure quality and accuracy.

People with the D style place an emphasis on shaping the environment by overcoming opposition to accomplish results.

People with the S style place an emphasis on cooperating with others within existing circumstances to carry out the task..

People with the i style place an emphasis on shaping the environment by influencing or persuading others.

Another test showed me High in C on both graphs, and higher in I internally than D or S. Huh?! See bottom.

What do the letters mean?

D Dominance
Person places emphasis on accomplishing results, the bottom line, confidence
Behaviors
- Sees the big picture
- Can be blunt
- Accepts challenges
- Gets straight to the point
Learn more
I Influence
Person places emphasis on influencing or persuading others, openness, relationships

When Both Graphs 1 & 2 Are Generally Different

Your Uniquely You Personality Profile contains basic insights on how you tend to think, feel, and act from a DISC temperament type perspective. If your graphs are generally different, you are simply revealing something contrasting about your behavior. You may be saying that you think people want you to behave one way in public, but you sometimes feel you should respond a different way in private. In other words, if you have a specific high type in Graph 1 and the same type low in Graph 2, you believe that people expect you to be one way in public, but not that way in private.
You may also be revealing that you feel that people expect you to behave one way among fellow employees and associates at work or publicly outside your more personal and familiar environments (Graph 1), than you tend to behave either at home under pressure among your closest friends and relatives or in more familiar environments (Graph 2). Keep in mind that Graph 1 is the behavior "expected of you" when you have your guard up and mask on (usually your place of employment or in casual environments). Graph 2 is "the real you" when you let your hair down, drop your guard, or take your mask off (usually at home or among those you know best in more familiar environments).
When both graphs are different, you are either struggling with your motivations and feelings or you are aware of your challenges and perhaps handling them well. Having a different configuration in your two graphs is common and can be very enlightening. It may be a sign that you are mature and capable of controlling your inner feelings and natural thoughts. Or, it can mean that you are not even aware of the struggles within you.
Understanding and adjusting your thoughts, feelings, and actions using these insights can be very productive and wise. Review and study your two graphs, keeping in mind the similarities and differences. Then, learn how to control your motivations rather than letting them control you.

Your LOW "I" on Graph 1 and HIGH "I" on Graph 2

You have a Low "I" on Graph 1 and a High "I" on Graph 2. This usually means you think people expect you to be less influencing and impressing than what you really tend to be. It may indicate that you are more entertaining and enthusiastic than what you show and act publicly. This could explain why you can be more outgoing in private, but not as inspiring or talkative in public.
The degree to which you are outgoing is shown by how high or low your "I" is on Graphs 1 or 2. In other words, if your "I" is closer to the bottom of your graph, you will be less influential and impressing than when your "I" is closer to or higher than the midline. If your "I" is just below the midline, you will be a little less interested in people, but not as much as when your "I" is higher than the midline. The lower your "I," the less outgoing and involved you tend to be.
You think people want you to be less active and extroverted in groups, while privately with your closest friends, you may be more people-oriented. You are more expressive among dearest acquaintances than you are among those you don't know as well. This doesn't mean you are not friendly with others. It may indicate that you are more comfortable entertaining or impressing those closest to you than you are with strangers or those you don't know as well.
Your inspiring interest in people causes you to be very motivated to impress smaller and more intimate groups. At work or among those who are not your dearest friends and relatives, you may not be as expressive or excited. You seem to be quicker to speak in private when it is not expected of you, and slower to communicate when you are among strangers.
You are not as driven to look good in public, but you seem to be more talkative and more excited in private. This sometimes causes others to wonder why you are not so friendly outside your home or familiar environments. They may wonder why you tend to be more shy when in large groups or in public. You often give mixed or confusing messages. People sometimes think you don't like or care about them because you seem interested only in your closest acquaintances.
Be more interested in looking good in a crowd. Be as enthusiastic publicly as you can be privately. Learn to be just as friendly and encouraging among those who are not your close friends or relatives.
In summary, your low "I" in Graph 1 and high "I" in Graph 2 means you are more outgoing and friendly among close friends and relatives than you are at work or in unfamiliar environments.

Huh?! See bottom.
