DISCLOSURES

This site uses cookies, mostly through Google's Blogger policy.

Some lawyers stay up at night trying to ruin free society and create new rules. Therefore, here are the disclosures I must have that you probably won't read.

A Simple Privacy Policy

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has made those of us who run websites and blogs aware that we need to have a "Privacy Policy"... You know, that boring document nobody has ever read... ever... never met a person who's read one... It's the document you shred moments after getting it or use as a bookmark? Nevertheless, I must bore you with it, so here it goes.

*Special thanks to Kirsten from the Create If Writing Podcast #132 and to Castbox for helping me find her post and making me aware of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

A Simple Privacy Policy

I DO collect your information IF you give it to me willingly. I DO NOT release that information to any third party (except the software companies I use to obtain and manage it, see below).

Information Collection And Use

  • Email: If you sign up for my email list I collect your email (shocking I know) from you. In turn, you get emails from me (the point of putting your email in the box). Duh!
  • Name, Address, Phone, Etc.: In some instances, I may collect these things (especially if you want me to mail you something).
I use MailChimp or Gumroad for most of these things. Sometimes I use Feedburner by Google as well.

Log Data, Cookies

Some of the software/companies that I use related to this site gathers your information such as Log Data or Cookies. These things are not things I, personally, gather or keep.

They are kept and used by the companies. Example: Google Analytics tells me how many people saw my site, how long they stayed, and where in the world they are from (but not their specific address, just generally the region they come from). It does not tell me who those people are, their addresses, etc.

Links To Other Sites

I link to other sites in my posts. These links are to other articles and sometimes products. Each company would then have it's own policy, I suppose. Some of these links contain affiliate links (see disclosure on that).

Companies I use related to this site and links to THEIR privacy policies.

Darrell's Reading List

Here are some books I've been reading lately:
  • Hacker: The Outlaw Chronicles (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). The story of a young Hacker girl, who went on a wild adventure into the supernatural realm beyond trying to save her mom, but saved her self too in the process.
  • Saint: A Paradise Novel (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). He's an assassin, or is he? He finds a secret to his past that unlocks supernatural abilities, at a cost.
  • For a full list of all my book suggestions, see my Amazon Store.

The W Story Structure - 4 Sequence Story Structure

Out of everything I've ever read on story structure for fiction writing, the W-Story Structure makes the most sense to me. If you'd rather view these as Acts (3-Act or 4-Act) you can overlay that on this W and it still works.

Glen C. Strathy writes (in much more detail here) in his article, The W-Plot vs. The Dramatica Model of Story Structure. There are four sequences for most stories. Each of the four legs of the W is comprised of a sequence of events that lead the story along to it's natural conclusion.

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)Sequence 2: recovering from the problem (new ideas, positive momentum)Sequence 3: deepening of the problemSequence 4: the resolution of the problem (new light or understanding)

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)
The Inciting Event (the event that is at the heart of the reason this story happened) may have occurred before your story begins, and often does. In King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), th…

Benefits Package of Heaven

Psalms 103, Benefits of God

As I ponder the benefits package of God, I'm forced to admit I haven't seen much of this play out in my life. It's been a collosal disappointment, frankly.
Yet I accept my part. How many times did He tell me to do a thing, and I did not. Not to do a thing, and I did. Invest, save, move, he's constantly talking to those who will listen. Partnership. He will not do your job for you.
If you're an author, he will inspire your book, he won't force you to sit and learn the craft and sit and write the book.
His Benefits take on a new meaning for me tonight, as I look them over more closely.
Forgiveness: implies I first failed.
Healing: implies I was first sick or broken.
Redemption: implies destruction came upon me.
Mercies: imply He protected me from myself.
Renewed Youth: implies the youth was spent and gone first.
Our Daddy keeps his covenant. He has compassion for our pain, even and maybe especially when it's self inflicted.
I don't und…

Friendship Lessons

Reflecting on friendship...

I've been making new friends the last 15 +/- months, learning about friendship again as a single adult (Widower)... I've seen a few lessons play out this year.

Keep  can your eyes open, friends can come from the most random unexpected places.Keep your heart open, people of different politics and even faith backgrounds can teach you more about love then some of your own tribe.Keep your heart protected, some that start out exciting may show they were never your real friend to begin with. Or at least, not a healthy friend you should keep around. Inner trust should be earned over time. Had to learn that with a few before I finally understood.Keep valuing your heart and soul and time above all else. If they don't value you, walk away.Keep your expectations in check, don't fall for someone's potential. I've watched friends make asinine decisions that either already turned out bad or are practically guaranteed to do so. Keep your opinion to…

Reflection Paper: Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

Reflections of Mere Christianity
This is a reflection paper of the text Mere Christianity (Lewis, 1952, 1980). The content was first delivered as radio broadcast material between 1942-1944 by Clive Staples “CS” Lewis. Lewis then gathered the materials and published them as three sperate works, later combining and editing the text that became Mere Christianity. With the mind of a scholar and the mouth of a layman, Lewis takes us through the various topics that affect our lives as Christians and provides practical break-downs of how we are to treat each topic, supplemented by a host of modern parallels and parables. He is careful not to take any position that is not laid solidly in the Word of God, leaving those positions that are controversial within the Church either without an opinion or a well-deserved analysis of each side. However, far from a dry treatment of theology, Lewis gives us a laugh through each turn as he cuts through the heady stuff for the “why behind” each discussion…
