DISCLOSURES - Cookies

I think this site uses cookies to analyze traffic and for ads measurement purposes. I'm not really sure, I don't do techy stuff. I built it on Google's Blogger platform, ask them. I put this here because some IDIOT BONEHEADS thought you needed new laws. Here're some links if you want more information.

DISCLOSURES

Some lawyers stay up at night trying to ruin free society and create new rules. Therefore, here are the disclosures I must have that you probably won't read.

Discovery | Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI)

Strengths Deployment Inventory (SDI)

This can be explained in some detail here.

The way I was taught this. There are three basic personality types. Pictographed as a triangle. These personality types are based on group and organizational behavior. In other words, as people interact, how might they behave within this setting?

Blue - The Ambulance. Always seeking to be a help to others.
  • These people are often attracted to nursing, or aide positions. They are the helpers, and care takers of the group.
Red - The Bulldozer. Rising up to lead - to win.
  • Natural leaders. If there is one red in the group, it's strongly likely that the red took charge. They have the goal in front of them, and they know how to delegate and get the job done.

Green - The Submarine. Quietly getting things done. Thing Excel.
  • Thinkers. Often accountants, or programmers. They are generally (but not always) the quite ones. They do the work others don't want to, or can't. Often highly skilled.

HUB - The Food Truck (not the original analogy, but I can't remember what it was). Organizers.Glue. This is me.
  • HUB personalities test in the center of these three. Displaying all equally. Rarest of the bunch, a HUB can become the missing link. Whichever side is most needed, the HUB will fill that gap. However, the one distinctive force, will be the HUB's drive for unity. HUB's know how all the others think and feel, instinctively, and HUB's will work to bring everyone together
People can test all over the spectrum. You might be a Blue-Green with very little Red... etc. See below.

MOTIVATIONAL VALUE SYSTEMS™

Relationship Awareness Theory identifies seven general themes or clusters of motives known as Motivational Value Systems (MVS). Each MVS can be traced through the work of Freud and Fromm.  Relationship Awareness describes them in terms of positive strivings for self-worth by adults in relationships.

Blue MVSAltruistic–Nurturing (Blue): Concern for the protection, growth, and welfare of others

Green MVSAnalytic–Autonomizing (Green): Concern for assurance that things have been properly thought out  and concern for meaningful order being established and maintained

Red MVSAssertive–Directing (Red): Concern for task accomplishment and concern for organization of people, time, money and any other resources to achieve desired results

Hub MVSFlexible–Cohering (Hub): Concern for flexibility… concern for the welfare of the group… concern for the members of the group and for belonging in the group

Red-Blue MVSAssertive–Nurturing (Red-Blue Blend): Concern for the protection, growth, and welfare of others through task accomplishment and leadership

Red-Green MVSJudicious–Competing (Red-Green Blend): Concern for intelligent assertiveness, justice, leadership, order, and fairness in competition

Blue-Green MVSCautious–Supporting (Blue-Green Blend): Concern for affirming and developing self-sufficiency in self and others… concern for thoughtful helpfulness with regard for justice

Darrell's Reading List

Here are some books I've been reading lately:
  • Hacker: The Outlaw Chronicles (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). The story of a young Hacker girl, who went on a wild adventure into the supernatural realm beyond trying to save her mom, but saved her self too in the process.
  • Saint: A Paradise Novel (here) by Ted Dekker (Author). He's an assassin, or is he? He finds a secret to his past that unlocks supernatural abilities, at a cost.
  • For a full list of all my book suggestions, see my Amazon Store.

The W Story Structure - 4 Sequence Story Structure

Out of everything I've ever read on story structure for fiction writing, the W-Story Structure makes the most sense to me. If you'd rather view these as Acts (3-Act or 4-Act) you can overlay that on this W and it still works.

Glen C. Strathy writes (in much more detail here) in his article, The W-Plot vs. The Dramatica Model of Story Structure. There are four sequences for most stories. Each of the four legs of the W is comprised of a sequence of events that lead the story along to it's natural conclusion.

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)Sequence 2: recovering from the problem (new ideas, positive momentum)Sequence 3: deepening of the problemSequence 4: the resolution of the problem (new light or understanding)

Sequence 1: setting up the problem (creating tension)
The Inciting Event (the event that is at the heart of the reason this story happened) may have occurred before your story begins, and often does. In King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), th…

Embracing Grief - The process God gave you to heal

The following was a question from a Widow/Widower support group I belong to:

What is the most important thing you've learned about grief?
My Answer:

Grief is a process to be embraced and walked through.
Your physical brain has developed protein structures (memories and muscle memories) that tell your body to react in a certain way.

These structures tell the leg to move when walking and they tell the body and mind to be a certain way at home with your spouse, certain expected norms.

Just as when a Vet loses a limb, a widow(er) loses something much more profound, their other half.

The new treatment for those who lose limbs is to activate the new nerve endings by rubbing them frequently with various materials (hard, soft, scratchy, smooth, hot, cold) so the brain can learn the new nerve endings. This helps alleviate "Phantom Limb Syndrome".

God gave us Widows(ers) the gift of Grief to help us recognize and process these protein structures in the brain as they relate to our …

Introduction In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Immerse, 2017) John, page 399
Notice that John begins his gospel by calling Jesus, The Word. We find Words, and the stories they create for us, impact us at a level that is beyond our cognitive ability to understand in the moment. Being caught up in a story can make you lose all sense of present, and be transported to another time and place (and sometimes another world entirely).

Ever since Aristotle observed that stories had a beginning, a middle, and an end, the science of story has been developed and studied. Our modern sensibilities tell us at a gut level whether a story “works” or i…
